Earjerk

EJK-032
Gitchi-anahmi-bezheu
'Wonder'
cassette // $6

We have said it before and we'll say it again... Earjerk is not a drone label... exclusively. But when something beautiful graces our ears we can't resist packaging that beauty up! (no matter what pigeon hole you want to stuff it into). I got to hang out with this cat and do a few live shows with him out on the East Coast, and man... I gotta say, dude delivers! I actually saw Ian perform as Dream Safari but, if anything, this new incarnation just turns everything up a notch... or down...however you wanna look at it! I guess down would be more appropriate. Cause this is deep, deep stuff! Fantastic Underwater Panther Music! The two times I saw Ian play live (and on all the cassette releases I have encountered) there is a definite progression that his pieces live through. This is something that is missing in many (MANY!) drone projects you might encounter, in which most finished pieces sound like they were chopped out of some large sprawling jam. *Snip! Snip! There' s the best chunk.* Not with Gitche. You can tell these pieces were self contained. A definite beginning, middle and end, you know? You can easily imagine these creations as living things as you listen to them originate, grow and die. Fleshy pink tapes. Individually hand-stamped covers on beautiful vintage paper. Limited to 99 copies.

Circulation of Light

Cirulation of Light
cassette // $6

Heady skronk. Saxophone drone. It sounds like dinosaur jazz. As in Jazz for dinosaurs. I don't know where this was recorded or when but it seems like whenever this tribe gathers ecstatic jams erupt. But they can lull you too. Just give them a chance and they'll definitely let you float awhile.

EJK-028
Enfer Boreal / Drunjus
Climate  Change / Ranking Charioteer
cassette // $6

OK. We'll admit it. Earjerk is kind of a drone label. Not on purpose though! We just keep coming across like-minded folks I guess... Some of the headiest material ever from both of these projects. Enfer Boreal starts from a deep bell toned pulse and as soon as you have locked on he tosses you into space. You bounce off various soft, rubbery astroids and UFO's.  You will have to re-enter the Earths atmosphere without burning up and these cold drones won't leave you hangin. Drunjus... Awww, you know what to expect. Anyway,  how many times can I use the words heavy and deep and cosmic when describing drones. I mean this is heavy, deep, cosmic and  COSMIC, but I have used all those descriptions before.Throbbing? Pulsing? Alive? Yes. All that. A definite buzz enhancer. Blue tapes with carefully applied green spray. Killer wrap-around collage artwork by Woodman. Limited to 45 copies.

East to West

Pack some granola. Two long hikes through the haze grace this 80 minute cassette. 'Morning in the East' blazes trails." I'm taking my banjo along through the Himalayas and if you wanna drag that ARP along that'd be cool with me." The flip has a real dirty metropolis groove. Traveling. Lets crescendo awhile. Way out west now...How long we been drivin? ...Any Natives still live around here? 99 copies. Earlier copies have red case.

EJK-021
E.C. Brown and I'Diamond
Gothick Reforme
cassette // $6

Everything just keeps getting darker and darker... It must be time for this lost treasure to be unearthed. In 2001 someone gave me a cd-r. They said they knew I liked "strange music" and they thought I should have this. The cover art was a robed figure with a golden mask and the back had a similar figure (perhaps female) posing with similar robes and a different mask. Both figures were set against a background of neon pink and yellow forest leaves. Somehow, despite the colors, there was something definitely ominous about the artwork for this cdr. And the same can be said of the sounds within. Truly ahead of it's time, I had no frame of reference for this at the time. I kept the cdr mostly to mysel; a secret revealed only to some. Very few were ready to except it's slimy, sometimes oppresive atmospheres, it's jarring filmscore "scene changes", and it's mixture of pre-Free(k) Folk, Noise and even Black Metal tendencies. Earjerk has tracked down Mr. Brown and has re-issued this wonder on puke-pink or yellow cassettes with the original artwork formated for cassette, for all the world to hear no longer lingering in dark corners of cardboard boxes and basement floors, subject to cd rot and digital decay. Buy this. Be the first to say you weren't there. 99 copies.

EJK-014
Annapurna illusion
Heat of the Fire, Heat of the Sun
cdr // $8

The debut release of Annapurna iIlusion, presents us with four tracks of woven electric breath. And a mystery. Who or what is Annapurna ilIusion. The answers will have to wait. As our ascent begins, expansive mountainous waves of guitar-drone and snowy feedback swirl around my head. Several seperate washes of sound combine to create a beautiful blizzardy backdrop to the many intricate organic noises that are floating to the surface and then fading away. Chimes sound somewhere in the distance. As the blizzard thickens, the drone rises to a wail and I am left to follow the trail blindly. I am totally enveloped in the environment that has been created. Somewhere toward the middle of this disc, I feel as if I am eavesdropping on some ancient mountain side ritual as a procession of silent monks in robes of white enter a frozen cave and tiny bells ring through the foggy feedback. Huge mountain horns and shimmering gongs sound. Perhaps the ceremony has begun. I follow the monks into the cave. DVD-style case with full-color home-spun collage artwork and insert.

Andy Futreal
Did you find it?
c60 // $6

On his first release on Sloow Tapes Andy melted minds with his oud improvisations, tape manipulations and radio freque-ing. This tape is no exception. Cassette walkman, microcassette recorder, laud, pedals and something called a postcard weevil are just some of the objects Andy employed this time around. This cassette reveals another mystery each time you listen. If you've had the pleasure of checking out his first release, the A-side of this one might surprise you; a very heavy, heady lapsteel guitar journey through steep orange and brown canyon walls with blue sky and soaring eagle. You'll want to take this journey again and again to really appreciate everything that is going on. First copies have hand stamped case and cassette.

EJK-011
The Second Family Band
The Eternal Lag

An older age filtered through dirty magnetic strips. Wander through these distorted landscapes. The sounds on this tape just seem to be bleeding off the reels. All analog. Recorded direct to hand-held mono cassette Dec. 1st 2008 and dumped to stereo cassette early morning Dec. 2nd 2008 and then commited to these tapes. The Second Family lays it on THICK here! There is an almost steady piano throb smothered in some epic, Dark Age synth, gritty atmospheres with slanted hand drum rhythms and break neck tempo shifts, piano pulses and banjo abuses.

Object Tapes

  OBC-042
Pan to Scratch
Pagan Blood
cassette // $6

Two live shows. Using thrift-score cassette decks, vintage analog synths (also from the thrift) and Bouzoki (on loan from Mumber Toes), Pan to Scratch succeeds in creating live, the kind of forgotten-time vibes that the Pan to Scratch field-collage tapes can evoke in the tape deck. Low tones, treated field recordings, unmanned machines, sad strings... it's all here to be sure, but this is a whole other monster in a live setting. Instruments are treated like any other object that might be stumbled upon on any abandoned plot. Side A was recorded in Madison, WI sometime in Nov. 09 and Side B is a live set from this summer in New Bruswick, NJ. (the same set (but not the same audio) as the live set which can be viewed here>>  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8r8G8b2sbl8 ). Hand etched case with painted paper insert. Limited.

OBC-041
Pan to Scratch
6/8/4 6/8/8
cassette // $6

This is a reissue of the Skulls of Heaven cassette release 'Venus Crossing the Sun' with an additional A-side. The first side, let's call it 'Murder' is a previously unreleased track and was recorded between 5am and 5:30am on 6/8/04. A stroll turns deadly when the recorder crosses paths with a violent, dive-bombing murder of crows. The flip, 'Venus Crossing the Sun' (originally released as a one-sided cassette on the the Skulls of Heaven label) was recorded 4 years later to the day on 6/8/06. Quiet solo spaces and activated chain-link fence, captured in a deserted environment,  while Venus floated between Earth and the Sun. Hand etched recycled case with grid insert.

Within Huron
c22 // $6

The latest from Object Tapes. Two spacers... nice, thick, fuzzy, zone outs from this contender. We actually try to avoid releasing drone-based material around here. Since everyone's "doin it doin it doin it". But let's be up front. There is nothing average about this deep lake drone. Bright orange cassettes with etched plastic case. 45 copies

OBCS-037
Pan to Scratch
The Sourcerer
c30 // $6

Daily, solitary, outdoor rituals documented over two months time in the Fall of 2008. Field recordings and multi-layer melodica musings crumble and decay over the 15 meditative minutes comprising side A of the latest Object Tapes release. Side B is a version on this number, with the drifting melodica drone having a bit more presence this time and taking on a pensive contemplative mood, punctuated with bells and minimal instrumentation. As with the release on Cabin Floor Esoterica, this is dedicated to the great Olivier Messiaen.

90 min tape
V/A
c90 // $5

SECOND RUN AVAILABLE!
The story behind this tape begins with a huge festering box of 90 minute tapes Endless had amassed. These tapes were full of old and new recordings. Recordings of jams, live shows, found sound and also tapes found with recordings already on them, recorded and abandoned by someone unknown. Being an obsessive recorder and pack rat but never a practicing documentarian, Endless left many of these unmarked. Or, if marked, then only with some obscure, indecipherable scribble unreadable even to himself . (Endless says " I had this bad habit of doing that. I guess I wanted to make it more mysterious...for myself. It's a part of my whole master plan.")  In the end the formula used to arrive at our present compilation was something like this: We took all of the worthy material from all of these 90 minute tapes, We cleaned up each track a bit, boiled it down, arranged them all and packed it all onto one of the aforementioned festering ninety minute tapes. Doubley Crusty! You get a miniature, 90 minute, time capsule of Midwestern American weird, and Endless cleans out some sorely needed space in his cave. Definitely one hell of a 90 minute thrill ride; this tape has tracks from everywhere and everyone, as well as found sound-tape collage-mash up recordings of unknown bands captured live! Tracks from the Davenport Family, Right Arm Severed, Kino Rattlers, Craig Microcassette System - but good luck identifying any of them, we can't! Also contains really really super duper rare jams from we-cant-say-who.

Chant-style New York rooftop ritual from Davenports 2004 East coast tour. A different angle on the 2004 skyscraping score (some of which was heard on some other Davenport Famly release - 'ceptin nawt this raw!). Here is one of many archived live Family jams. Another glazed-out, inner-journey through the disintigrating, collective brain of Davenport. This one recorded high above Gothoms rooftops. Some serious comatose monk drones here, with trademark, slow-build junk-percussion orchestra. And This time you can truly hear the Family doing what it does best: siphoning. No one person is a single entity, all are of one mind - a cosmic conduit for something much, much bigger. Closer to heaven than ever before, the Family truly channel something eternal. This is a woven audio walk through Wisconsin’s fields, farms and forests. Green and yellow spray painted cassettes in clear plastic envelope with decaying leave used in the recording. Usually there is no indication of artist or label on this cassette. Approximately 25 copies exist.

SUPERJACK!
cassette // $5
RESTOCKED

SECOND RUN AVAILABLE!
Ultra-coincidental meeting of three misanthrope. Innocent and menacing at the same time, this is what happens when you introduce an open-mic, poetry ranting uh...poet (voices/spit), a jaded, record store reject (guitar/feedback), and one stoned, space slingin creep (electronics/effects). Sound bad? Its superbad! And its good for the soul. Contains an extra bonus mystery jam on the flip-side.

Notes: Pretty legendary locally, this recording captures one of only two recordings of this truly whacked-out trio. Superjack formed when Endless met Mumber Toes. Basically strangers these two decided to have a session. The date was set to jam, but as fate would have it, on the way to meet Mumber Toes that day, Endless happened to run into a poet whom he had seen perform once by happenstance. Long-story-short-as-possible: Endless had stumbled into a local coffee joint for some much needed java, and before he could reach the counter to have his brain buzzed by the bean it was blown by this CAT… this old unassuming cat just ranting away… all the other poets on the scene seemed completely indifferent if not annoyed. This guy was going off, waving his hands around (one holding his note-pad of lines), screaming a babbling stream of sometimes cliché, sometimes completely off the wall, non-sense poetry. Kind of charming and psychotic and the same time, this guy was so off he was on. Endless thought to invite him along… Mumber Toes was not amused. The A-side are the results of this jam. This trio played a second and final surprise live set at the Tomb with Nautical Almanac and others. That freak-scene can be witnessed on the highly limited ‘Music for Teeth’ 4 cassette box which was released on 23 productions in an edition of about 8 copies. The B-side is a strange jam involving Sven Bolan among others… perhaps someday we will tell you a bit about that adventure too. Right now no one seems to remember much about this jam. Probably about 6 copies of this out there on 3”cdr and maybe 30 copies on cassette.

Fare cross-breed ambush recording. Majorly fucked snap-shot of a Madison never-to-be-assembled-again super?group. The bastard offspring of a nasty case of the crankies and alien visitors in the living room. This was recorded through a crack in the floorboards. Recorded, reprocessed and played back live on three ailing tape-decks without the participants knowledge or consent.

Notes: Basically this is a recording of a huge jam with many of the characters from Davenport jamming in the pre-Davenport days. Endless was feeling rather anti-social one day when EVERYONE showed up at his hovel to jam. Cranky, but still wanting to jam, he locked himself in his bedroom, propped some mics by the gap under the door and started recording everything that occurred on multiple tape decks. Some of these tapes were then rewound and played back live, with Endless manipulating the recording and playback decks and jamming “solo” over the jam which was still going on outside the bedroom door. Pretty fucked recording all around. About 30 copies all in weird plastic slipcase-type cassette case.

Ok .There should be about 99 copies of this thing floating around out there. A few old friends make appearances but this is mostly composed of old and moldy solo's by  T. Endless... this is a clouded group of sounds from the archives. Four or so longer pieces. This tape is overflowing with ailing African horn moans, tape hiss and trash loops slathered upon analog synth rhythms of the most primitive order.

Notes: Most of the material heard here is pre-2000. Definitely pre-Davenport Family era stuff. Some of the Swampdwellers play on this recording including S. Asparagus and The Salzman Brothers.

V/A - Burial Hex, Sorc'henn, Drunjus, Crystal Dragon, Teeth collection, Black Sparrow, Pan to Scratch, Taikuri Tali
Bright and Dark Light Box Set
4xcassette Box // $18
SOLD OUT

Each artist was asked to contribute a side long piece representing light or darkness. I gotta say, this one is heavy on the darkside... Sorc'henn – A Dozen Moons against the Sun - This is a soundtrack to a haunting. A wandering ghost floating through streets of drizzling rain. The groans of the not quite dead. A distant rumble of thunder is heard through a haze of lamentation. Regret, misery, and abandonment.. Teeth Collection - untitled - A metallic (in the literal sense) symphony starts out this piece. Activated and bowed metal sounds build to a frenzy as a bed of noise creeeeps in behind and gradually envelops the metal sounds creating a cold fog of swirling texture that is truly entrancing. Drunjus - Silo (version) - A deep gutteral drone created in a silo (designed by a student of Frank Lloyd Wright) and pitched down. Waaaay down. While we weren't looking Pat Best of Pelt sneeked in and contributed gong flourishes. That didn't make it in the liner notes, but it's true! Thanks Patrick! Crystal Dragon - Sirens of Hyperspace - A total space odyssey! This is some dreamy analog synth action from the Dragon. Someone needed to shed a little light, so the Dragon steps up. Amethyst mountains rising from a pink bubbling haze of 50's science fiction soundtrack sounds. Black Sparrow - untitled - A bit lighter now. Black Sparrow takes us on a flight above the clouds. As our shadow passes the moon we can hear below us a howling wolf chorus of analog synth. Burial Hex - untitled - A dark journey through scraping cemetery gates with rolling sarcophagi stones and bones Pan to Scratch - August 2008 V - Pan to Scratch presents us with another organic cassette composition. A true 'Sound Sculpture', this piece is a layering of tones upon tones. The original tone being inspired by a captured environmental ambiance and then enhanced with several moog drones. Once the initial drones were laid out, (layered over) a loose pattern began to emerge. This pattern was then used as a skeleton to build the piece, each successive layer adding to and changing the course of the pattern. This was repeated until the piece was 'finished', the tones gradually fading out and leaving only the original ambiance. Taikuri Tali - untitled - Spectacular contribution from these Finnish freakers! Taikuri Tali (here composed of Antti Tolvi, Pekko Kappi and Niko-matti Ahti) contribute a piece so out there that I have No idea whats happening on this recording. What I Imagine: A weird squeak-toy, spring peeper drone with AM frequency fiddle and electronic bull roarer/Goose duo...then the elf dervishes start in and it just gets weirder from there...

Ophibre
Approaching the Ionized Piezo Kiosk
cdr // $6
SOLD OUT

"Stone Gon' Drone". A constantly phasing, shimmering cloud of color that shifts and morphs, yet maintains a cohesiveness throughout that will continually make you drift and forget you are listening. The really great stuff you just can't describe. Ophibre already stumped me with his self-released 'Compositions For Disassembled Cassette", which was comprised of all the little things you need to make a cassette. The reels, the screws (in a little ziplock coin baggie taped to the side of the case), the tape, the shell.. If you want to hear it your gonna learn to put together the cassette! I havent remembered to ask him, but I think the sound source for the composition in Ophibre taking apart all the cassettes! Luckily this cdr will come fully assembled. Each cdr is stickered and sleeved. The packaging for each one of these is unique. Each has a different black and white, psychedlic, eyestraining "visual aid" insert, which is double-sided so you can "choose your cover" and each has its one thrift store LP section insert as well. All housed in a nice shiny plastic envelope. Edition of 36.

(if you would like a shorter piece, find some partially used and/or poor-quality, dimestore batteries. coffin chile
C20 // $8
SOLD OUT

A  cassette, encased in a small hand-made coffin.(limited to thirteen copies). probably sold out. - Guitar, synth, feedback, found sound, and drone creepiness. A true product of it's environment, this dark project was conceived birthed and buried, all in 9 months time at the Tomb in Madison WI. Stillborn, Coffin Chile miraculously, gimped thru a few deathly jams and at least one basement shindig, before it was buried (literally).  There was a general sense of gloom and doom in the air when this all went down. all these things happened independently of one another ; Wormsblood loosened the soil, the collective started calling the studio "the Tomb", Clay started Burial Hex, and Coffin Chile spontaneously arose from the dust. October 31st two-thousand and six on hallowed ground, thirteen small coffins were buried. A year later they were dug up. Resurrected, the Coffin Children plod the earth spreading their putrid, big stink. Contained within this cassette there are dark shambling skeleton dances and undead folk instrumentals. Creepy. Most of these were given away as gifts and promos. 13 copies exist.

The recording, taken alternately from inside and (mostly) outside the premises, this alternates between audible musical moments and sparse, sometimes  almost non-existent happenings. OBCS-000
Endless
cassette // $5
SOLD OUT
